1. Acknowledge the hurt. That is where forgiveness begins. Ask God to forgive you if you are holding a grudge. Release that hurt and pain to him.
If you have read my book "No Greater Love" A Journey through Alzheimer's', you know that it took years before my mother made amends to me. I long ago had forgiven her, but her words still stung. Her bitterness was the result of getting bitter at God and people in her church. She carried that bitterness most of her adult life. That spirit overtook her and made her abusive and unloving. When she developed Alzheimer's, our relationship deepened. She ask for forgiveness over and over. She was truly remorseful. God gave me lots of love to wrap around her.

ReplyDelete2. Be willing to forgive. We have to unconditionally forgive whatever the other party has done to us, regardless of whether they ask for our forgiveness or not. When we have truly forgiven, only tender mercies and lovingkindness will shine from our hearts toward them. Jesus said from the cross, "Father, forgive them for they know not what they do."

This is the day that the Lord hath made. I will rejoice and be glad in it. I've come a long way from caregiving for my mother and husband. It has been almost three years since my husband died of early on set Alzheimer's. My mother died of Alzheimer's also. Life is but a vapor! God has given me renewed strength to bring hope to others. I intend to make each day count. Seize the day!
